I bought this pan as a gift. I relied on the dimensions shown on Amazon's site as I wanted the largest pan possible, so was surprised upon receipt that it was smaller than I had thought. Note that the length as shown in the description includes the handles and the exterior width. The interior of the 5.25 qt roaster is 13 inches by 10 inches. If the recipient does not want this roaster, I will keep and get him the 7 quart model.

I've been using my dutch oven as a roasting pan for years and finally decided to upgrade to a *real* roasting pan. I was looking for something that I could use on the stove top to turn the meat juices into gravy. Also I love cooking with cast iron. The advantage over the dutch oven is all the open space. I can fill the pan with veggies or a roasting rack and lay the meat flat for even roasting. It accomodates much bigger pieces of meat than my dutch oven. I've had no problem using it on the stove. My only complaint is I wish Le Creuset made a cover for it.
